The Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys is embarking on their Bring Back the Memories campaign in an effort to raise funds to upgrade the club's equipment, specifically focusing on safety and technology.
"It's an important place to the community and we're slowly trying to build this place right back up," said John Benjamin, executive director.
Benjamin, along with the entity's board of directors, hope to raise at least $40,000 by Dec. 31, 2015. A former club member recently pledged a matching $10,000 donation if the club raises their goal by their deadline.
The fundraiser kicked off Aug. 1 with a letter-writing campaign to previous members and businesses. Within the first week they have received 30 responses and have reached 25 percent of their goal.
Modernizing the facility, upgrading safety features and technology are the bulk of what the funds will be used for. A priority is making the club handicap accessible.
