Margaret A. “Daisy” Herbst, 91, of 153 Queens Rd., St. Marys, died unexpectedly Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Sept. 8, 1921 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Harry S. and Margaret C. Doyle Ford. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1939.
On Jan. 22, 1944 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Anthony F. “Tony” Herbst, who preceded her in death on July 12, 2000.
Mrs. Herbst was a member of the Queen of the World Church. She volunteered in the Queen of the World School and Elk County Catholic High School cafeterias and the Blood Mobile.
She is survived by four daughters, Karen Herbst of Pittsburgh, Andrea Herbst of St. Marys, Mary Peiffer and her husband Greg of Franklin, and Ruth Swihart and her husband Brad of Lakewood, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Donny Nunamaker, Tony Nunamaker, Debbie Manning, Tom Nunamaker, Chuck Nunamaker, Kim Nunamaker, Patty Wickett, Erica Peiffer, Megan Peiffer, Julie Peiffer, Jon Swihart, and Mark Swihart; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, M. Louise Nunamaker in 1992; a son-in-law, Donald Nunamaker in 2002; two sisters, Mary Ganoe and Alice Ford; and two brothers, Gilbert Ford and Harold Ford. She was the last member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret A. “Daisy” Herbst will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, July 29, 2013, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday evening, July 28, 2013, from 5-8 p.m.
