Latin may be referred to by some as a "dead language," but that is not the case at Elk County Catholic High School.
After a hiatus of several years, the school once again began offering Latin courses a few years ago under the direction of Janet VanEerden. VanEerden currently teaches Latin II, while Fr. Ross Miceli, ECCHS Campus Minister, teaches Latin I.
"We have 22 kids in Latin I, so it's a pretty big class," Miceli said.
While the benefits of learning Latin as opposed to languages such as Spanish, French, or German may not be readily apparent to some, Miceli explained that the students in his Latin I class chose to study the language for a number of reasons.
