Water consumption rates to increase 10 cents

St. Marys City Council members voted unanimously to increase water consumption fees 10 cents in order to generate sufficient revenue to balance the sewage treatment fund budget. This fee was last raised in 2005. A total of $23,139 is currently being taken out of the cash reserve fund to balance the sewage fund budget. This increase, based on the system's 4,565 customers, would equal a revenue of $32,380, enough to balance the sewage fund's 2014 budget. A second option to obtain needed revenue was to increase the base water rate 50 cents taking it from $19.50 to $20 per residence or building. This would result in additional revenue of $27,390.
