St. Marys Legion ends regular season with two wins

The St. Marys Legion baseball team closed out their regular season Thursday night by taking a doubleheader from Fox Township. St. Marys won the first game by a 10-6 score and took the nightcap 6-5.
St. Marys finished regular season play with a 14-1 record, while Fox finished 10-5.
The Elk County Legion League playoffs started Friday night, with Kane going to Bradford. The rest of the league will begin on Tuesday.
In the first game, St. Marys outhit Fox 12-7. For St. Marys, Jordan Weinzierl had a double and two singles, Ben Daghir had three singles, Eric Wehler two singles and Ricky Pearsall, Luke Daghir, Nate Geist and Anthony Grimone one each. For Fox, Branden Tyger had a home run and a single, Joe McLaughlin two singles and Bob Vollmer, Justin Quiggle and Justin Beimel one single each.
With one out in the top of the first inning, Ben Daghir reached base on an error. With two outs, Weinzierl singled, sending Daghir to third. A single by Wehler scored Daghir, giving St. Marys the 1-0 lead. Fox left two men on base in their half of the inning.

Weinzierl was hit by a pitch to start the third inning. Wehler singled and stole second. A single by Luke Daghir scored Weinzierl. With one out, Pat Brennen walked to load the bases. Grimone walked to score Wehler. A single by Pearsall scored Brennen and Grimone. With two outs, Weinzierl doubled, scoring both Pearsall and Ben Daghir as St. Marys opened an 8-0 lead. Fox went in order in the home half of the inning.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Geist reached base and moved to second on an overthrow. He moved to third on an error and stole home, giving St. Marys the 9-0 lead. The home half of the fourth saw McLaughlin and Tyger single for Fox. Brandon Vollmer would walk, but all three were left stranded.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Ben Daghir singled and stole second. He moved to third on an over throw and scored on a double by Weinzierl, giving St. Marys a 10-0 lead. Fox responded with four runs of their own in the home half of the inning. Michael Fox walked to start the inning. Bob Vollmer reached base on an error. With one out, McLaughlin walked to load the bases. Tyger unloaded a grand slam to cut the St. Marys lead to 10-4.
The sixth found St. Marys leaving one man on base. Brian Merritt led off the top of the sixth with a walk for Fox Twp. Bob Vollmer also walked. A single by Quiggle scored both Merritt and Vollmer, making the score 10-6.
In the seventh, St. Marys left one man on base, while Fox Township left one man stranded as St. Marys recorded the 10-6 victory.
In the nightcap, St. Marys had 13 hits to Fox Township’s 11. Pearsall and Brennen led St. Marys with three singles each. Uhl had a double and a single and Weinzierl had two singles. Jake Cortina, Grimone and Geist each had a single. For Fox, Justin Quiggle went four-for-four with four singles. Rocco Harshbarger doubled while Merritt, Bob Vollmer, Tyger, McLaughlin, Luke Schreiber and Robert Watts all singled.
Fox left a man on base in the top of the first, while St. Marys left two men on base.
In the top half of the second inning, Justin Beimel walked with one out. With two outs, Brandon Vollmer walked. A double by Harshbarger scored Beimel, making the score 1-0 in favor of Fox. Geist started the home half of the second with a walk. Grimone and Brennen followed with singles. Pearsall singled, scoring Geist and Grimone. With two outs, Uhl doubled, scoring both Brennen and Pearsall as St. Marys took the 4-1 lead.
Quiggle and Bob Vollmer singled to start the Fox third. A single by Tyger scored Quiggle. Vollmer was able to score on a groundout, making the score 4-3. St. Marys left the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning.
Fox left two men on base in the top of the fourth inning. Uhl led off the home half of the inning with a single. With one out, Cortina singled. A single by Geist scored Uhl as St. Marys led 5-3.
In the top of the fifth, Tyger walked and stole second and third. He scored on an infield out, making the score 5-4. Brennen singled to start the fifth inning for St. Marys. Nick Burdick walked and Pearsall singled. Brennen scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Josh Feldbauer as St. Marys led 6-4.
Fox went in order in the top of the sixth, with St. Marys leaving the bases loaded in their half of the inning.
Quiggle led off the seventh for Fox with a single. Bob Vollmer reached base on a fielder’s choice, erasing Quiggle. Vollmer stole second and moved to third on an error. A single by McLaughlin scored Vollmer to make the final score 6-5 in favor of St. Marys.
