St. Marys cross country teams sweep Brockway squads

The St. Marys Area cross country teams closed out their regular season Tuesday afternoon by defeating the Brockway squads in a meet held at the SMAHS course.
The Dutchmen defeated the Rovers by a 21-38 score, while the Lady Dutch won by a 27-28 margin. The Dutch finished their dual-meet season with a 10-4 record, while the Lady Dutch finished with a 9-3 mark.
SMA’s Justin Huey and Adair Gennocro won their respective races on Senior Night for the Dutch.
St. Marys took the first three spots in the boys’ race. Huey took first with a time of 17:12. Gideon Woelfel was second in 18:13, while Alec Foster took third in 18:13.5. Cody Anderson of Brockway was fourth in 18:23, while Kyle Caggiano of Ridgway was fifth in 18:38.
Jake Rogos of Brockway was sixth in 18:47, with Cody Steele of Brockway taking seventh in 18:53. Dutchmen Dylan Shields and Konstantin Deyev and Nathan McFadden rounded out the top 10 in 18:56, 19:05 and 19:26, respectively.
Jon Prechtl of the Dutch was 15th in 20:35, while Jordan Agosti finished in 22:31, good for 19th place. Jeff Wagner was 21st in 27:57.
Gennocro won the girls’ race with a time of 19:22. Zoe Hawkins of Brockway was second in 21:09, while Sloan Foster and Kaley Williams of the Lady Dutch were third and fourth in 21:29 and 21:35. Alexis Konen of Ridgway was fifth in 21:46.
Alexis Hanes of Brockway was sixth in 22:32, while Brittany Hindman of Brockway was seventh in 22:52. Chelsea Snelick and Julie Inzana of Brockway were eighth and ninth in 25:37 and 25:43. Michaela Rupprecht of the Lady Dutch rounded out the top ten in 26:09.
Cassie Wonderling of the Lady Dutch was 11th in 26:31, while Rachel Schreiber finished in 27:03, good for 13th place.
“Congratulations to Justin Huey and Jon Prechtl on a good four years. Good luck in the future: keep running,” said St. Marys coach Stan Foster.
“Lots of PRs (personal records) tonight and that is nice to see at the close of the season. Our next meet is Districts in Ridgway. There will be an entry fee charged this year,” added Foster.
The St. Marys squads will return to action on Oct. 30 at the District 9 cross country championships scheduled for the Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School on Boot Jack Road in Ridgway. The Lady Dutch will compete in the Class AA race this year, while the Dutch will be Class AAA.
