The St. Marys Little League Baseball 10-11-year-old all-star team opened play in the District 10 Tournament Tuesday night by defeating the Warren squad by a 10-3 score in a game played at Memorial Park.
St. Marys will now play the winner of last nightâ€™s Punxsutawney at DuBois game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at a site to be determined.
St. Marys had six hits in last nightâ€™s game, as Gabe Kraus had a double and a single, Timmy Wehler tripled, Austin Sadosky had two singles and Hayden Tettis singled.
Kraus started on the mound for St. Marys and worked four innings, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out eight. Timmy Wehler worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out one. Hayden Tettis worked 2/3 of an inning. For Warren, Andy Egger started and worked 2 2/3 innings, giving up three hits, walking three and striking out three. Chase Elmquist worked one inning, walking three and striking out one. Jaydon Hayes worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, walking three and striking out one.
St. Marys won the coin toss and elected to be the home team.
In the top of the first, Warren went down in order. St. Marys left two runners on base in their half of the inning.
Warren went in order in the second inning, while St. Marys left two men on base. The top of the third found Warren leaving the bases loaded. In the home half of the inning, Sadosky singled with one out. A double by Kraus scored Sadosky. With two outs, Brendon Rolley reached base on an error, allowing Kraus to score. Alex Oâ€™Neill reached base on an error. Ben Uberti also reached base on an error, allowing both Rolley and Oâ€™Neill to score on the play as St. Marys opened a 4-0 lead.
Warren scored a run in the top of the fourth on one hit and an error to make it 4-1. St. Marys added two runs in the home half of the fourth as Wehler walked with one out. He moved to second and third on passed balls and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Sadosky. Kraus walked and would eventually score on three passed balls as St. Marys took the 6-1 lead.
Warren left a man on base in the top of the fifth. In the home half of the inning, Uberti and Ryan Bressler both walked with one out. A single by Tettis scored both Uberti and Bressler. Tettis, who moved to second on an error, scored on a triple by Wehler. Wehler scored on a passed ball as St. Marys took the 10-1 lead.
A leadoff double by Andy Egger started the sixth for Warren. With one out, Mitchell Bryant walked. Ryan Munksgard singled and moved to second and third on an error on the play, which allowed by Egger and Bryant to score, making the score 10-3. Warren left the bases loaded as St. Marys recorded the10-3 victory.
