School emergency closure policy detailed

January 31, 2014

The decision to close or modify the school day due to inclement weather is not one made lightly as emphasized by St. Marys Area School District Superintendent Ann Kearney.
In addressing the district's response to recent severe winter weather, Kearney referenced its
emergency closing procedures which may be viewed on the front page of the district website at www.smasd.org.
"We take this very seriously," Kearney said. "The wind chill is what we're really concerned about, specifically children standing at the bus stop. If for any reasons the buses would be late and they would have to stand there for any length of time, that is always taken into consideration."
