Michael W. Manno Jr., 86, of 325 Willow Street, Johnsonburg, died Monday evening, Nov. 21 at the Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 4, 1925 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Michael W. and Margaret Knopic Manno. He married the former Sophie A. Czekai in December of 1957 in St. Joseph Church, Mt. Jewett. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2010.
Mr. Manno had resided in Johnsonburg all his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Church and the Johnsonburg Senior Center. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Coast Guard as a Carpenter’s Mate, Second Class aboard the USS Might. He was employed as an independent welder traveling the eastern United States for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 47 before retiring in 1990.
He is survived by numerous cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Manno, in World War II.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael W. Manno Jr. will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 410 Center Street, Johnsonburg, Friday morning from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen’s Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Friday morning at 10:15 a.m.
