Martha M. “Marcie” Meier

Martha M. “Marcie” Meier, 89, a resident of Elk Haven and formerly of 669 Center St., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after an illness of the past year.
She was born April 19, 1924 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frank and Minnie Gerber Meier.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1942. She was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1988 after 46 years of service.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, the church choir, the CD of A, the American Legion, and volunteered at the St. Mary’s Parochial School cafeteria. She was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy Waves, serving at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. She enjoyed bowling and gardening.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Meier of St. Marys and Joan Kastner and her husband Richard “Bud” of Kersey; a brother, Robert J. Meier and his wife Joann of Winston Salem, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Miriam Meier of St. Marys and Betty Meier of St. Marys; nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Friedl and Valery Nissel; and five brothers, Richard Meier, Alvin Meier, Rev. Pirmin Meier, OSB, Francis “June” Meier, and Donald “Brownie” Meier.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Martha M. “Marcie” Meier will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Thomas More, OSB, Pastor, as celebrant. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, from 5-8 p.m.
