Lois Lynch Mallison

February 6, 2013

Lois Lynch Mallison, 73, died peacefully on Jan. 31, 2013 in Los Gatos, Calif., surrounded by her family after a short, brave battle with brain cancer.
Lois was born on Oct. 21, 1939 in Butler, one of four children in the family of the late Angela and Joseph Lynch. Lois attended Central Catholic High School, where she graduated with classmate and future husband Robert A. Mallison. They graduated together in 1957, were married in St. Marys in 1965, moved to California, and started their family. They settled in Los Gatos in 1971.
In young adulthood, Lois pursued her Bachelor of Science degree at Villa Maria College (now Gannon University) in Erie and her master’s degree in Home Economics at Cornell University. Lois was employed as a mechanical draftsman at Keystone Carbon Company, a teaching assistant at Cornell University, and acted as a consultant in extension services at the University of Connecticut. After raising six children, Lois worked at the Los Gatos Library and The Queen’s Chest in Los Gatos. Lois enjoyed life and loved to listen to the many stories of her children, grandchildren, and friends. Some of her many interests included traveling, antiquing with friends, researching family ancestry, appreciating the arts and music with her grandchildren, enjoying tea time with her daughters, gardening, being a soccer mom/grandma, and collecting teapots, nutcrackers, and miniatures, as well as spending a relaxing day by the ocean.
Lois is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert A. Mallison, M.D., her six children, who live in California: Christine, Karen, Denise (Eric) Dandurand, Kevin, Brian (Anna), and Stacey (Kimberly) Carvallison; six grandchildren, Michael, Steven, and Allison Dandurand, Andrew and Lauren Mallison, and Sadera Carvallison; and two brothers, Joseph (Alice) Lynch of St. Marys, and Edward Lynch of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, George.
Lois will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, loyalty, and her love for family. All who knew her will remember how much she took care of everyone with thoughtfulness and a smile on her face.
Funeral services for Lois Lynch Mallison will be held on Feb. 7 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in San Jose, Calif.
Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Ave., San Jose, Calif. 95124; or Cornell University, College of Human Ecology Scholarship Fund, Ithaca, N.Y. 14850.
