The local cross country runners fared very well at Saturdayâ€™s PIAA cross country championships, held at Parkview Cross Country Course in Hershey.
Elk County Catholicâ€™s Kennedy Weisner placed second and Harley Thompson placed third in their respective Class AA championships, while St. Marys Areaâ€™s Adair Gennocro was third in the AA girlsâ€™ race.
The Elk County Catholic girlsâ€™ team placed 11th overall with 296 points. Elk Lake won the girlsâ€™ team title with 77 points. In the Class AA boysâ€™ team race, the Crusaders finished in 17th place with 359 points. Elk Lake also won the boysâ€™ team title with 102 points.
In the Class AA girlsâ€™ race, Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center won the event with a time of 18:44. Freshman Kennedy Weisner of ECC was second in 19:10 and sophomore Adair Gennocro of St. Marys Area placed third with a time of 19:17.
In the boysâ€™ AA race, Thompson finished third in 16:40. Tommy Gruschow of Trinity was first with a 16:30, while A.J. Limongelli of Holy Redeemer was second in 16:31.
In the boysâ€™ Class AAA race, St. Marys Areaâ€™s Gideon Woelfel finished in 112th place in 17:20 and teammate Justin Huey finished in 176th in 17:52.
Behind Weisner for the Lady Crusaders was Maggie Sorg, who placed 53rd in 21:00. Cassie Thompson was 127th in 21:55, with Kate Singer taking 158th in 22:18. Tess Onink crossed the finish line in 24:12, Hannah Pontzer in 24:15 and Jessica Franco in 29:46.
Behind Thompson for the Crusaders was Caleb Lecker, who placed 30th in 17:18. Robert Prokop was 201st in 18:57. Joe Hoffman was 220th in 19:16, with Ryan Detsch finishing in 238th in 19:37. Ben Crowe crossed the finish line in 19:48 and Nick Erich in 20:53.
Johnsonburgâ€™s Cody Schreiber finished in 186th place with a time of 18:47.
