LaJoy G. Newell

LaJoy G. Newell, 85, of 148 Hemlock Road, St. Marys, died Sunday morning, Feb. 20, 2011 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after an illness of the past year.
He was born on July 24, 1925, in St. Marys, son of the late Alton and Leona Hoffman Newell.
On Nov. 18, 1950, in the Guardian Angels Church in Coal Hollow, he married Virginia Dallasen, who survives.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys parochial schools. He was a retired tool and die maker at Stackpole Carbon Co. He was a member of the Queen of the World Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Gapinski and her husband Chester of Groton, MA, Patricia Newell of Toledo, OH, Jane Newell of St. Marys, and Majorie Newell and her husband Joseph of St. Marys; a son, Dr. George Newell and his wife Mary Jo of Dublin, OH; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald Newell and his wife Eleanor of St. Marys.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Newell.
A Mass of Christian Burial for LaJoy Newell will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday at noon, with the Rev. Michael Ferrick, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Center Street on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
