Lady Dutch improve to 20-1, beat Ramettes 45-30
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team raised their record to 20-1 on the season with a 45-30 victory over the Johnsonburg Ramettes last night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven on Senior Night.The Lady Dutch opened a 16-5 lead after the first quarter and coasted the rest of the way to their 10th straight win.“I was happy that we won, but I wasn’t real happy with the way we played. The intensity wasn’t there and we didn’t handle the ball real well,” said St. Marys coach Bob Swanson.“On the bright side, a lot of kids saw some valuable action,” he added.Swanson noted the play of senior Kayla Hoohuli who finished the night with 27 points, 14 rebounds, 14 steals and five blocked shots.Hoohuli scored her points on three twos, five threes and a six-for-seven night from the foul line. Jenna Anderson was next with five points.For Johnsonburg, Justis Myers led the way with nine points on three twos and a three. Taylor Harvey was next with seven points.The game opened with a bucket by SMA’s Rachel Walker. Justis Myers hit a three for the Ramettes. St. Mary went on a 12-0 run as Mandy Gerarge had a field goal, Jenna Anderson a three and Kayla Hoohuli a three and two twos, 14-3. Harvey sank two foul shots for Johnsonburg, 14-5. Kayla Hoohuli converted two foul shots for St. Marys, giving the Lady Dutch the 16-5 lead after the first quarter.Kiana Hoohuli opened the second quarter with a field goal. Harvey and Gerarge traded buckets, 20-7. Brittany Watts scored for Johnsonburg, with Kayla Hoohuli sinking one of two foul shots, 21-9. Watts scored again for the Ramettes, with Kayla Hoohuli hitting a three to give St. Marys the 24-11 halftime lead.Kayla Hoohuli hit a three to open the second half. Justis Myers hit a two and Rhianon Fowler connected on a three for Johnsonburg, 27-16. Adair Gennocro hit a three for St. Marys. Harvey sank a foul shot and Kiana Myers hit a three, 30-20. The Lady Dutch closed out the third period with an 8-0 run as Kayla Hoohuli hit two threes and Gerarge a two, 38-20.Anderson and Justis Myers traded buckets to open the fourth quarter. Kayla Hoohuli converted three foul shots with 4:40 left, giving St. Marys the 43-22 lead. Johnsonburg went on a 6-0 run as Kiana Myers, Justis Myers and Fowler scored to make it 43-28 with 1:51 left. Kayla Hoohuli scored at the 1:38 mark to make it 45-28. Harvey scored for Johnsonburg to make the final score 45-30 in favor of St. Marys.Game notesThe Lady Dutch are now 20-1 on the season. They won the District 9 League with a 9-1 record.St. Marys returns to action Friday when they close out their regular season at Ridgway.
