Gary Lee Fitch

Gary Lee Fitch, 64, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away unexpectedly as a result of a sudden heart attack on July 5, 2013.
He was born Feb. 28, 1949 in Johnsonburg, the son of Lawrence B. Fitch, Jr. and Anita V. Sweeney Fitch. He graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School in 1968 where he played basketball. Gary then became a Staff Sergeant at Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, N.C. and was honorably discharged on Sept. 14, 1992. Following that time, he worked locally for the Fitch Contracting Firm and as prison security guard in PA facilities. While in Phoenix, Ariz. he worked in the City of Phoenix Police Department as a municipal guard. His all-time love was the Oakland Raiders.
Gary is survived by Bill McCamey. a roommate and friend while living in Phoenix and eight siblings, Beverly Jolly of Wilmington, N.C., Jane Lerch, Larry (Louie) Fitch, Karen Fitch and Mary Beth Malewicz, all of Erie, Diane Murray of DuBois, Colleen Melquist of Sheffield and Thomas Fitch of Ridgway. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Marsha Rigard Shauf.
A Memorial Mass for Gary Fitch will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at 10 a.m. Celebrating will be Fr. Wilson. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Burial Detail. Funeral arrangements, are under the direction of the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home.
