Flying Dutchmen defeat Clearfield Bisons 42-34

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen defeated the Clearfield Bisons by a 42-38 score last night in a non-league game played at the Clearfield Area High School in Hyde.
The game was very close through three quarters of play as the Dutch held a slim 27-24 lead after the third period. The game was tied at 18 at the half.
“We struggled with their zone in the first half then took charge in the second half,” said St. Marys coach Mark Guido.
“We struggled at the free throw line tonight. We are going to have to work on that if we are going to be successful in the playoffs,” added coach Guido. The Dutchmen were 15 of 31 from the charity stripe.
St. Marys was led by Dylan Reigel with 19 points on five twos, one three and a six for eight night from the foul line. Jimmy Werner was next with eight points on one field goal and a six for eight night from the foul line.
For Clearfield, Robbie Myers led the way with 17 points on seven field goals and a three for five night from the foul line. Jack Mellgard was next with 14 points on four twos and two threes.
The first period of play found both teams scoring nine points.
In the second quarter each team added nine points to their total as the game was tied at 18 at the half.
St. Marys outscored Clearfield by a 9-6 margin in the third quarter as the Dutch opened a 27-24 lead.
The final eight minutes of play found the Dutchmen outscoring the Bisons by a 15-10 margin to win the game 42-34.

Game notes
The Dutchmen are now 15-6 on the year. They finished District 9 League play with a 6-4 record.

St. Marys will close out their regular season on Wednesday when they travel to Johnsonburg to take on the Rams in a non-league game. Junior varsity tips off at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.

JVs lose
The St. Marys Area junior varsity squad lost a 45-30 game to the Clearfield Bisons.
Clearfield outscored St. Marys 10-3 in the first period and 10-6 in the second quarter for a 20-9 halftime lead.
The third period found the Bisons outscoring the Dutch 15-13. Clearfield outscored St. Marys 10-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game 45-30.
