Elk herd grazes amid fall foliage

October 20, 2013

Colorful foliage was the ideal backdrop on a recent fall day in Benezette. Approximately 40 Rocky Mountain elk are shown in a field located adjacent to the Elk Country Visitors Center recently. Shown in the foreground is a young elk nursing from its mother, while another elk rests on the ground in the background as other elk roam the field while feeding. The fall is peak time for elk viewing as this is the rut (mating) season.
