The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling team raised their record to 6-9 on the year with a 57-9 victory over the Cameron County Raiders Saturday at the SMAHS Dutch Oven.
The Dutch received six forfeits on Saturday, with six matches being wrestled. There were no matches at 103 and 152.
“The kids that wrestled did a decent job,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
The big match was at 285 with Hoy. He did what we call ‘working for free,’ then got the stalling call that turned out to be big in that match,” said Surra. “Kevin (Hoy) learns with every match and is doing a nice job.
“Billy Gabor wrestled well against a tough opponent. He went out on top with a win and a pin.
“It was a good win for the team, but now we have to come back and have a good team performance against a good Redbank Valley team Tuesday night.”
The day started at 103 pounds, where there was no match. Dutchmen Trenton Bowers, Evan Smith and Alex Coudriet won by forfeit at 112, 119 and 125 pounds.
At 130 pounds, Dutchman Bill Gabor pinned David Setzer at the 1:42 mark of their match as the Dutch built a 24-0 lead. Darren Lyon and Sam Miller of the Dutch won by forfeit at 135 and 140, making the score 36-0.
Dutchman Allan Gursky pinned Taylor Saline at the 3:38 mark of their 145-pound match, giving St. Marys the 42-0 lead. There was no match at 152 pounds.
At 160 pounds, Nick Stuckey of the Raiders pinned Michael Brennen at the 2:36 mark of their match. At 171 pounds, Devin Mason of the Raiders picked up a 6-2 decision over Alex Geitner, making the score 42-9.
Dutchman Joe McLaughlin pinned Josh Reynolds at the 1:19 mark of their 189-pound match. Dutchman Jimmy Antonelli won by forfeit at 215 pounds, making the score 54-9.
At 285 pounds, Dutchman Kevin Hoy got an escape and a takedown in the third period to come away with a 3-2 decision over Andrew Fragale.
