Dutch gymnasts defeat DuBois Area on Saturday

The St. Marys Area Dutch gymnastics team recorded a 124.4 to 116.95 victory over the DuBois Area squad on Saturday in a meet held at the DuBois Area High School. This is St. Marys’ second win of the season.
“The team competed very well today. I’ve definitely seen the improvements in their performances, routines,” said St. Marys coach Irene McCandless.
In the vault, Taylor Schall of DuBois was first with a 9.35. SMA’s Molly Eshbach and Justin Huey were second and third, respectively, with 9.175 and 8.55. Kayla Stockdale of DuBois was fourth with an 8.5. Other St. Marys scores were Megan Longhi 8.2, Michaela Sorg 7.9 and Abby Wittman 8.05. In exhibition for the Dutch, Bobbi Fox had a 6.35 and Mackenzie Neureiter 7.85.
On the uneven bar, Schall of DuBois was first with an 8.4, with Eshbach taking second with a 7.425. Huey was third with a 7.3 and Sorg was fourth with a 7.125. Other St. Marys scores were Longhi 6.425 and Wittman 5.325. Neureiter had a 4.55 in exhibition.
Schall also won the balance beam with an 8.675. SMA’s Neureiter was second with an 8.0. DuBois’ Kayla Stockdale was third with a 7.55 and Alexis Braid was fourth with a 7.225. Other St. Marys scores were: Eshbach 7.125, Fox 6.85, Longhi 7.0 and Sorg 7.05. In exhibition for St. Marys, Laurel Pierotti had a 2.5 and Wittman a 5.6
“Although our bar and beam routines still have some room for improvement, I was very pleased to see the team up their beam score by two points from our previous meet, which ultimately showed improvement in the team score,” McCandless said.
Schall won the floor exercise with a 9.025. Eshbach was second with an 8.55, followed by Longhi with an 8.4 and Neureiter with an 8.15. Other St. Marys scores were: Sorg 7.825 and Wittman 6.45. Huey had a 6.025 in exhibition.
In the all-around, Taylor Schall of DuBois was first with a 34.45 total, followed by SMA’s Molly Eshbach with 32.325, Megan Longhi with 30.025 and Michaela Sorg with 29.9.
“The team is heading in the right direction and hoping to keep the momentum up for our next meet on Wednesday against the Altoona Lady Lions,” McCandless added.
The St. Marys squad hosts Altoona Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the St. Marys Area Middle School.
