Dorothy C. Heigel, 89, of 437 Wolfel Ave., St. Marys, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was born June 17, 1924, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Nissel Bauer.
On Nov. 30, 1946, she married George A. Heigel Sr., who preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the St. Marys Church.Â She enjoyed baking, cooking, and her annual trips to the beach with her family.Â Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, June, Mrs. Andrew Sorg of Benezette, and Terri, Mrs. David Pfaff of State College; a son, George Heigel Jr. of DuBois; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Â
She is also survived by two brothers, George Bauer and his wife Gloria, and John "Jack" Bauer and his wife Lois, both of St. Marys, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Richards and Lorraine Wolfel; and by three brothers, Harold, Floyd, and Clarence "Lefty" Bauer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy C. Heigel will be celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the St. Marys Church, Church St., St. Marys with Fr. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, as celebrant.Â
Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, March 9, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys.
