David R. Hetrick

David R. Hetrick, 87, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Byrnedale, died very suddenly early Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at DRMC West.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Byrnedale, son of the late Russell J. and Hilda L. (Johnson) Hetrick. On Aug. 22, 1953 he married Alvera J. Facchine, who survives.
He lived all his life in Bennetts Valley and was a graduate of Weedville High School, Class of 1946.
He served in the U.S. Army during and after WWII (1946-1948) in Alaska, receiving the rank of Tech 4.
He worked on the railroad in his youth, afterwards becoming a tool and die maker working with Pure Carbon for 17 years and as the owner/operator of Kersey Tool and Die for 23 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Valley American Legion, Legion Burial Detail, and past member of the Bennetts Valley Lions. He was an avid baseball player, playing for the JC League in his youth where as a pitcher he achieved a no-hitter game, played on the Benezette team, with the St. Marys Colts, and once tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cutting firewood, and enjoyed helping family members with any type of project.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Richard R. (Chris) Hetrick of Florida, David D. (Joann) Hetrick of St. Marys, Jeffrey A. (Susan) Hetrick of Weedville, and James P. (Kim) Hetrick of Weedville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John G. Hetrick.
Funeral services for David R. Hetrick will be held at 10 a.m. today, Monday Feb. 28, 2013, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Force, with Father Thomas Tyler officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Bennetts Valley Legion Post 978 Burial Detail.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Force.
Visitation was held at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and will also be held at the funeral home this morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
The family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph Church in Force.
