Crusaders, Rams reach tourney finals

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders will meet the Johnsonburg Rams this evening at 8 p.m. in the finals of the ECCHS Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball Tournament.
Elk Catholic advanced to the finals, rallying to beat the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen 51-43, while the Johnsonburg Rams rolled over the Ridgway Elkers 64-35.
ECCHS vs. St. Marys
The first period of play saw the Dutch dominate the Crusaders as they opened an 18-7 lead. Elk Catholic outscored St. Marys 11-10 in the second period to cut the St. Marys lead to 28-18 at the half.
In the third period, the Crusaders outscored the Dutch by a 14-7 margin, cutting the St. Marys lead to 35-32 with one quarter remaining.
The final quarter saw the Crusaders outscore the Dutch by a 19-6 margin to win the game by a 51-43 margin.

Ridgway vs. Johnsonburg
The Rams took a slim 5-4 first-period lead. In the second quarter, Johnsonburg outscored Ridgway by an 18-8 margin to take a 23-12 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw the Rams score 25 points while holding Ridgway to 13 as Johnsonburg opened a 48-24 lead with one quarter remaining.
The fourth quarter found Johnsonburg outscore the Elkers 16-11 to win the game 64-35.
