Crusader baseball leads Elkers 10-1 in suspended game

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders and the Ridgway Elkers saw their game Wednesday suspended after 2 1/2 innings due to inclement weather.
The Crusaders were leading by a 10-1 score when the game was called in the top of the third inning after Ridgway finished batting.
The Crusaders had five hits in the limited contest. Kyle Schneider had a double while Ricky Pearsall, Eric Wehler, Luke Daghir and Josh Feldbauer all singled.
Jesse Reynolds, Josh Mitchell and Slade Horner all singled for the Elkers.
Pat Brennen started for Elk Catholic, giving up three hits and striking out four. He had one hit batsman. D.J. Skraba started on the mound for Ridgway, giving up five hits, walking seven and hitting two batters.
Ridgway left a runner stranded in the top of the first inning as Mitchell singled and stole second. In the home half of the inning, Pearsall singled, then stole second. Wehler singled, scoring Pearsall. Wehler stole second and third. Luke Daghir walked and stole second. Wehler scored when Ben Daghir grounded out to second. A sacrifice fly to center by Jake Cortina scored Luke Daghir, giving ECC the 3-0 lead.
With one out in the top of the second, Ben Jaques was hit by a pitch. He stole second and moved to third on an infield out. He scored on a single by Slade Horner, making the score 3-1. Brennen led off the home half of the inning with a walk. He stole second. Feldbauer reached base on an infield single. Pearsall was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wehler walked forcing in Schneider. Luke Daghir singled, scoring Feldbauer and Pearsall. A sacrifice fly to right by Ben Daghir sent Wehler to third. Luke Daghir stole second. Cortina walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly to center by Zac Brody scored Luke Daghir. A double by Kyle Schneider scored Cortina. Brennen was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Feldbauer walked, scoring Schneider, and the Crusaders took the 10-1 lead as the first rain delay took place.
Approximately 20 minutes later, play resumed with Jesse Reynolds leading off with a single for Ridgway. He stole second, but was left stranded.
The wind, rain and lightning then hit. After a 30-minute delay, the game was suspended. It will be picked up Friday following the ECCHS at St. Marys game.
Elk Catholic returns to action Friday when they take on the St. Marys Area Dutchmen at Berwind Park at 4:15 p.m.
The Elkers are scheduled to play host to the Dutchmen this afternoon at 4 p.m., with junior varsity to follow at 5:15 p.m.
