The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch wrestling team saw their record slip to 5-6 on the season with a tough 37-32 loss to the Clearfield Bisons Tuesday night at Clearfield.
The Dutchmen were able to win seven of the 11 bouts wrestled. However, they gave up three forfeits due to sickness and injury.
“I knew going into tonight was going to be tough for us to win, especially when you are forfeiting three weight classes. We are a bit banged up and sick and need to get everyone back and healthy,” said St. Marys coach Dominic Surra.
“We challenged the kids after the Brookville match to pick up their level fo competition and they responded well tonight and did a real ncie job in a loss. This should give us something to build on for the rest of the season.
“Coach Aveni (Clearfield) has a nice team and hopefully we get another shot at them, but we have to keep focus and have a lot of work to do before that happens.”
The match started at 103 pounds, where Shane Peters of the Bisons won by forfeit. At 112 pounds, Christian Stone of Clearfield decisioned Trenton Bowers 7-2 to give the Bisons the 9-0 lead.
