This week representatives from the City of St. Marys plan to meet with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regarding the city facing a violation for its failure in adopting or amending its ordinance to fit within the guidelines of the Elk County Stormwater Plan.
As stated in a letter to the city dated Aug. 13, "DEP is preparing to begin enforcement activities to bring the municipality into compliance." This could result in state grant funding being withheld, potentially liquid fuel funding as well as additional enforcement action if the city refuses to meet with DEP about the issue.
