Charles M. "Chuck" O'Connor

Charles M. "Chuck" O'Connor, 80, former St. Marys resident, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 in Silver Spring, Md. at Renaissance Gardens Care Facility at Riderwoods.
He was born in Ridgway on Aug. 8, 1932, the son of the late Charles E. and Catherine Klein O'Connor. He married Patricia McEwen on June 24, 1961 in Bradford at St. Francis of Assissi Church, with Fr. Carlton Richey officiating.
Chuck graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1950. He worked a few years at the former Speer Carbon Co. before entering the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
After serving his country, he studied at Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction in 1960. Chuck then moved to the D.C. area, where he worked as an economist in the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, D.C., retiring after 30 years.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia O'Connor; one sister, Catherine [Kate] Donachy [Charles J.]; two nieces, Carolyn [Roger] Zilcofsky of Johnsonburg and Deanna [James W.] Young of St. Marys; two great-nephews, Jeffrey T. Schatz of Ridgway and Eric Young [Sabina], presently of Prague, The Czech Republic; four great-nieces, Janis L. Young of Fairfax, Va., Barbara [Steve] Groba and Julie M. Young, both of Pittsburgh, and Deborah [Schatz] Naglich [John] of Kersey; a great-grandniece, Allison T. Schatz of St. Marys; and four great-grandnephews, Bailey, Nathan, Casey and Jonah Schatz of Ridgway.
A celebration of life for Charles M. (Chuck) O'Connor will be held at Resurrection Chapel at Riderwood, Silver Spring, Md. on March 2 at 1 p.m.
