The new Benedictine Gift Shop celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday afternoon. The shop is located at the St. Mary's Parish annex building at the bottom of Church Street.
"From the Sisters beginning in town was to teach and spread prayer and devotion in the church, and that applies not only to the Catholic church, but to all Christians in the area. With that important role that they started, we at St. Mary's Parish, consider that important enough to make sure it stays here and is carried on," said Fr. Thomas More Sikora, O.S.B., St. Mary's Parish pastor.
Patrons filled the shop for the event consisting of a greeting and blessing by Fr. Thomas and a scripture reading by Fr. Alfred Patterson, O.S.B., St. Mary's Parish parochial vicar.
Fr. Thomas was joined by parish staff, several Benedictine sisters, City of St. Marys officials and government representatives for a ribbon-cutting, conducted by the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce.
