A proposal to install an artificial turf football field at St. Marys Area High School was detailed by Terry Straub, student activities director, during this week's St. Marys Area School District Board of Directors meeting.
The estimated cost of the project stands at $768,000 from ELA Sports with a minimum 12-year life. This is compared to replacing the current field with natural grass at a cost of $150,000 including drainage, irrigation and leveling from Hoopes Turf Farm.
"I don't think too many people are going to argue the point that we need to do something with our field. Not only the field itself, but also with the drainage," Straub said.
