The finals of the John Skok Memorial Bowling Tournament (City Singles) were held last weekend at the CYMA alleys with Dave Molella, Dave Clyde, Bill Groll and Jesse Beimel reaching the finals. They bowled a four-game series and the total pinfall determined the final placement. The event was sponsored by St. Marys Moose Family Center #146.
After all four games were completed, Bill Groll stood as the victor with a series of 818. He had four games of 203, 209, 176 and 230.
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 38-26 victory over the DuBois Central Lady Cardinals Thursday night at the SMAHS Dutch Oven in their final home game of the season.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders remained perfect on the season with a 63-39 District 9 League victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders Wednesday night at the ECCHS gym on Grade School Appreciation Night.
The Lady Crusaders are now 20-0 on the season.
Â The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen successfully defended their District 9 Class AAA title Saturday afternoon with a 33-22 victory over the Clearfield Bison in the District 9 Wrestling Championships at DuBois Area High School.
Headed into Friday night's game, there was some discussion as to whether the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks would be the team to end the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders' undefeated run. ECC put that speculation to rest early as they built a large lead in the first quarter and pulled away for a 56-33 victory.
Headed into the final bout of the night, the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen held a slim three-point lead over county rival Ridgway Elkers, 31-28. At one point in the match, the Dutchmen had held a 22-point lead, but Ridgway had rallied and looked poised to steal the victory. Faced with a must-win scenario, St. Marys Area's Cameron Resch came through with a 4-1 decision over Ridgway's Drew Baumgratz to give the Dutch the 34-28 match victory.
