Rams rally for 6-4 win over Crusaders

JOHNSONBURG – Johnsonburg baseball rallied with a 4-run sixth inning to take a 6-4 victory over Elk County Catholic Monday afternoon at Knothole Area Recreational Park.
The Crusaders had a 4-2 lead entering the home half of the sixth inning, but the Rams sent nine hitters to the plate en route to taking the lead. Mitchell Holmberg led the inning off by being hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a passed ball. After a fly out, Zac Luhr singled up the middle to move Holmberg to third and Quinn Luhr followed with a single of his own to plate Holmberg, pushing the lead to 4-3.

Dutch baseball loses to DuBois Area, Williamsport

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch baseball team saw their record slip to 2-5 on the season as they dropped a doubleheader Saturday at Berwind Park.
The Dutch lost to the DuBois Beavers by a 5-0 score in a game that was picked up in the bottom of the first inning with DuBois on top 1-0.
The second game of the day saw the Dutch lose a 10-2, eight-inning game to the Williamsport Millionaires. The game was tied at 2-all at the end of regulation, but Williamsport scored eight runs on seven hits in the top of the eighth to win the game.

Lady Crusaders defeat Bradord Area 6-0

Taylor Schlimm pitched a one-hitter for the Lady Crusaders on Saturday afternoon at Benzinger Township as the Elk County Catholic girls defeated the visiting Bradford Area Lady Owls by a 6-0 score.
The Lady Crusaders had five hits in the game. The Elk offense was aided by six Bradford errors.
In pitching her sixth shutout of the season, Schlimm struck out 10 Bradford batters and issued no walks. Bradford's Erica Bacha was the losing pitcher as she gave up five hits, struck out six, issued five walks and was the victim of some poor defensive play on the part of her teammates.

Lady Dutch rally in the seventh to defeat ECC 2-1

Hayley McGowan's two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning led the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Lady Crusaders of Elk County Catholic on Friday afternoon at the Benzinger Park softball field.
The Lady Crusaders took the early lead in the game, but a seventh-inning rally by the Lady Dutch proved to be the difference in a very close, well- played, hard-fought game.

It felt more like football weather than baseball Friday afternoon at Berwind Park, where the Elk County Catholic Crusaders handed the St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen an 8-1 setback.
The Crusaders were the first to get on the scoreboard as they were able to score twice in the second inning and twice in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. They were able to add four runs in the fifth inning.
“Ben (Daghir) set the tone for the game with his good outing. We were able to get two runs in the second to go on top,” said ECCHS coach Father Eric Vogt.

St. Marys Area defeats ECCH tennis team 8-1

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch tennis team handed the Elk County Catholic Crusaders an 8-1 setback in a match held Thursday afternoon at the Benzinger and Memorial Park courts.
"I think one of our problems today was that we weren't able to get any momentum or good solid starts to the matches," said Nick Caggiano, ECCH coach. "St. Marys has a very talented group of individuals."

St. Marys baseball outslugs Ridgway

An abundance of offense was on display at Sandy Beach Recreational Park as St. Marys baseball won 21-11 in five innings over Ridgway Thursday afternoon.
St. Marys scored three or more runs in every inning. Ridgway scored in four of its five innings. The 11 runs in the game was Ridgway's largest output of the season.
"We continue to make strides," Ridgway coach Mark Morelli said. "If we continue to do strides, I think we'll be more competitive than we have been lately. If you play St. Marys, you got to hit every inning because they have a good-hitting team."

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team raised their record to 5-2 on the season with a 9-0 victory over the Ridgway Lady Elkers.
The game was played at Benzinger Park due to unplayable conditions at the SMAHS field.
St. Marys used a five-run, four-hit first inning to take charge of the contest.
“We hit the ball well today but they (Ridgway) played well defensively,” said St. Marys coach Manny Gerarge. “We made good contact today.”

Elk Catholic softball defeats Kane Lady Wolves 12-0

Taylor Schlimm recorded her fifth shutout of the season on Thursday afternoon as she pitched the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders to a 12-0, five-inning victory over the visiting Kane Area High Lady Wolves in a game played at Benzinger Park.
Schlimm faced just 17 batters in the five innings, giving up just two infield hits while striking out 10 and issuing no free passes.

Lady Dutch lead Lady Beavers 5-2 in suspended game

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch game with the DuBois Area Lady Beavers was called due to weather conditions after two and a half innings. The Lady Dutch are leading in the game by a 5-2 score.
They had seven hits in the first two innings, with Mandy Gerarge and Kali Quagliani leading the way with two singles each. Rachel Ginther, Savanah Krivonyak and Raelyn Cunningham each had a single to account for the other three hits. Gerarge has three RBIs in the game thus far, while Krivonyak and Cunningham each have one.
