The Clarion-Limestone Lions advanced to the District 9 Class A boys championship game by defeating the Elk County Catholic Crusaders by a 49-40 score in overtime Wednesday night at Clarion University's Waldo Tippin Gymnasium.
The Venango Catholic Vikings rallied in the fourth quarter to come-from-behind to hand the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders their first loss of the season by a 50-39 score in a District 9-A semifinal game played at the DuBois Area Middle School.
The St. Marys Area High School gymnastics team finished as the runner-up in the Bronze division at the Pa. Classic Gymnastics Championships over the weekend, ending up just over five points behind Chambersburg in the battle for the title. Chambersburg had a team score of 133.241, while St. Marys earned a 127.809. Placing third was Bellefonte with a score of 125.759 while DuBois Area was fourth with a score of 116.758.
Seven individuals were inducted into the District 9 Wrestling Hall of Fame on Saturday night prior to the start of the finals of the District 9 Class AA and AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament at Clarion University, and among those individuals was current St. Marys Area assistant wrestling coach Doug Surra.
The St. Marys Sportsmen's 12th Annual "Size Doesn't Matter" Coyote Hunt was held this past weekend with 140 hunters signed up from around the state. The registered hunters ranged from Harrisburg to Erie to Pittsburgh, and two from New York State.

Kentucky played host to SEC league door matt Auburn and appropriately blew them out of the gym. Kentucky used a 23-2 run in the first half to break open a 27 point first half lead. They never looked back as Auburn never seriously threatened again. Karl Anthony Towns led Kentucky with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

The St. Marys Area Dutch wrestling team ended Saturday's District 9 Class AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament with three District champions, five runners-up, and three third-place finishers. All 11 wrestlers will advance to Saturday's Class AAA Northwest Regional Wrestling Tournament in Altoona to compete for a chance to advance to the PIAA Class AAA Individual Wrestling Championships the following weekend. Additionally, Dutch head coach Dominic Surra was named Class AAA Coach of the Year, and assistant coach Doug Surra was inducted into the District 9 Wrestling Hall of Fame.
St. Marys Area Dutch wrestling head coach Dominic Surra was named the Class AAA Coach of the Year on Saturday night during the District 9 Class AA and AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament at Clarion University. It was the first time Surra, who is in his fifth season as head coach of the Dutchmen, has received the Coach of the Year honor.
