Crusaders edge DCC 4-3 in eight innings to advance to title game

The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team waited until the last moment Tuesday afternoon to tie the game with DuBois Central at 3-all in the bottom of the seventh inning, then got a single from Dan Singer to score Dan Stauffer in the eighth inning to send the Crusaders to the District 9-A championship game with a 4-3 victory.

Dutch miscues allow Chucks to walk off with D9 title

Headed into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 4-1 lead, St. Marys Area looked set to pull off an upset of top seeded Punxsutawney to claim the D9 Class AAA baseball title. The Chucks had other plans though and took advantage of a few miscues to tie the game and send it into extra innings. From there, the Dutchmen tried again to seal the victory as they pulled ahead 5-4 in the top of the ninth, only to see the Chucks come right back and walk off for the 6-5 win in the bottom of the inning.

Crusaders rally for 4-2 playoff win over Smethport

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders found themselves in an early two-run deficit against the Smethport Hubbers on Thursday afternoon at Berwind Park in the opening round of the District 9 Class A Baseball Tournament, but ECC rallied with a pair of runs in both the third and sixth innings to come from behind for a 4-2 victory.

Keystone softball ends Lady Crusader season 2-1

The Keystone Lady Panthers scored two runs in the home half of the sixth inning to come from behind to edge the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders by a 2-1 score Thursday afternoon in a District 9-A quarterfinal played at Keystone.

St. Marys Area honors spring sports athletes

The St. Marys Area High School held its Spring Sports Awards Program Tuesday evening at the Carpin Auditorium.
Those student/athletes participating in boys and girls track and field, baseball, softball and boys tennis were recognized.

Lady Crusaders edge Ramettes for D9 Class AA track and field team title

It came down to the final race to decide the District 9 Class AA girls' team title on Friday evening at the Track and Field Championships at Brookville Area High School. In the end, the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders ended up edging the Johnsonburg Ramettes by a mere 2.5 points, 105.5-103.

Crusader baseball finishes regular season 20-0, beat SMA 3-0

On a night suitable for football, temperature-wise, the Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team defeated the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch by a 3-0 score Friday night at Berwind Park.
The Crusaders finished the regular season with a 20-0 record.

Bothun's walk-off grand slam gives Lady Dutch 5-1 win over Lady Crusaders

A walk-off grand slam by Cheyenne Bothun gave the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team a 5-1, nine-inning victory over the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders Friday evening at the SMAHS softball field on Senior Night.

Elk County Catholic High School held its 2013-2014 Spring Athletic Awards Program, sponsored by the ECCHS Athletic Association, on Tuesday, May 13, honoring not only all of the athletes on the school's spring sports teams, but also acknowledging the accomplishments of athletes who have performed well throughout the school year.

SMA's Burns and Bojalad capture D9-AAA individual titles

The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch track and field team brought home three District 9-AAA championships from Wednesday's District 9-AAA Track and Field Championships held at Kane.
Senior Josh Burns won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Freshman Tom Bojalad won the shot put.
Burns qualified for the 110 finals by taking second in his heat with a time of 16.19 seconds. In the finals, Burns won with a time of 14.95 seconds. He won the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.86 seconds.
