April 26th, 2013
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen hosted the Elk County Catholic Crusaders for the crosstown rivals' first matchup of the season on Friday afternoon at Berwind Park. It was a nice day for baseball and a sizable crowd filled the bleachers to watch what would be an exciting, though lopsided contest as the Crusaders shut out the Dutchmen 11-0.
April 25th
The Elk County Catholic High School boys' tennis team blanked the Punxsutawney Chucks 9-0 on Thursday afternoon in matches played at Benzinger and Memorial Parks in St. Marys.
April 22nd
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders built a lead in the early innings of Monday afternoon's game at Benzinger Park and then held off an attempted rally by the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals late in the game to come away with a 6-3 victory.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch baseball team saw their record slip to 1-5 on the season as the DuBois Area Beavers edged the Dutch by a 3-1 score in nine innings at Berwind Park Monday afternoon.
April 21st
It was a typical spring day in Elk County on Saturday, but baseball fans braved the chilly temperatures and snow flurries to take in an exciting game between the Elk County Catholic Crusaders and Ridgway Elkers at Berwind Park. The Crusaders took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second but then the Elkers fought right back to go ahead 2-1 in the top of the third, and the score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth when ECC pushed through two more runs and held on to come away with the 3-2 win.
April 18th
The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team won their fourth straight contest Thursday afternoon as they handed the Altoona Lady Lions a 7-1 loss at the SMAHS softball field.
The Bradford Owls visited Berwind Park for the second day in a row on Thursday, this time taking on the Elk County Catholic Crusader squad. Much of the game was a pitcher's duel, with neither side able to generate much offense in the early innings. The Crusaders got on the board with a two-run home run by Ivan Wortman in the bottom of the fourth, added another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, and then worked out of a jam in the top of the seventh to come away with the 4-1 win.
April 17th
It was a nice afternoon for tennis on Wednesday as the St. Marys Area boys' tennis team played host to crosstown rival Elk County Catholic in a match that saw the Crusaders emerge victorious by an 8-1 score.
The Bradford Owls baseball team spoiled the home opener of the St. Marys Area Flying Dutch with a 14-5 victory over the Dutch at Berwind Park Wednesday.
April 15th
As the temperature began to cool down, the softball bats began to heat up at Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School.
Elk County Catholic softball would finish off the game with a 10-run seventh inning en route to a 24-6 win over Ridgway Monday afternoon.
