Elk County Catholic High School held its 2014-2015 Winter Athletic Awards program on Tuesday evening, but unlike in past years, only students in the school's own winter sports programs were acknowledged. Students participating in the three co-op sports programs with St. Marys Area High School were acknowledged in an awards program held at the same time across town at SMAHS.
The St. Marys Area High School held their Winter Sports Awards Program Tuesday night honoring those student/athletes who participated in the three co-op sports of wrestling, swimming and diving and gymnastics. St. Marys Area and Elk County Catholic co-op in these sports.
Big Dance Roundup and Look Ahead
Last week we gave you a preview of the tournament and some predictions of teams that we felt could make a run to the Final 4. Well, those predictions were way off and the bracket this writer submitted to his friends and a couple websites sits in about 10 millionth place. All the wise guys were talking about Iowa State and Virginia. Those teams won a combined 1 game. Now we are going to go region by region to see what happened and what we can look forward to seeing next weekend.

The St. Marys Area High School held a Winter Sports Awards Program Tuesday night at Carpin Auditorium recognizing those student-athletes who participated in boys and girls basketball and cheerleading.
The student-athletes who participate in wrestling, gymnastics and swimming and diving will be recognized on Tuesday, March 24.
CLARION â€“Â The Elk County Catholic Crusaders saw their season come to an end with a 79-49 loss to Farrell on Tuesday night at Clarion University in the PIAA Class A second round.

Kentucky went about business as usual. They beat an in conference foe thoroughly as they should. Karl Anthony towns had 13 points and 9 rebounds as they Wildcats finished their first undefeated regular season in program history.

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders saw their season come to a close Saturday afternoon in the first round of the PIAA Class A Tournament as they lost a 54-37 contest to the Kennedy Catholic Golden Eagles at the Sharon High School. ECCHS ended the season with an outstanding 25-2 record.
EBENSBURG â€“ ECC may have been down, but they were never out in Friday night's PIAA Class A opening round game against the Bishop Carroll Huskies at Central Cambria High School. Trailing for most of the game, and by as many as 14 points at one time, the Crusaders came alive in the fourth quarter, rallying to tie the game and force overtime en route to recording a 56-50 victory.
The St. Marys Area girls swim and dive team captured the girls District 9 championship on Saturday at the District 9 meet held at Clearfield Area High School. This is the third straight year the Lady Dutch have won the team title and the third straight year they have finished the season undefeated.
The Lady Dutch finished the meet with 419 points followed by Clearfield with 299.5, Bradford 268 and Brookville 130.5.
