Georgia Elizabeth (Smith) Sweeney

Georgia Elizabeth (Smith) Sweeney, 88, died Monday, May 20, 2013 after a short illness.
She was born July 1, 1924 to George and Theresa Smith in St. Marys.
She attended the local Catholic School and graduated in 1930.
She spent her life raising five children and worked for a few years as a nurse’s aide at the St. Marys Hospital. She and her husband, Gene moved to Dutch Flat, Calif. in 1984 and moved to Colorado in 2000 to be near their daughter, Edie.

Richard Marcel Smith

Richard Marcel Smith, 77, of Bridge Street, Johnsonburg, died suddenly Friday, May 24, 2013, at home.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 10-11 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, with Pastor Stephen Fair.

Clyde "Punky" Nelson III

Clyde "Punky" Nelson III, 33, of 427 Biddle Street, Kane, died Thursday evening (May 23, 2013) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near the intersection of Route 66 and Route 948 in Highland Township.
He was born June 15, 1979, in Kane, a son of Clyde and Joyce Robinson Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was employed by ITL on Montmorenci. He was a member of the Ridgway Loyal Order of the Moose and a former member of the Kane Moose #130.

Marian T. Mertz

Marian T. Mertz, 85, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Elk Towers, died Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.
She was born on January 2, 1928 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Norbert Lecker, who died in 1985, and Caroline Hassennetter Lecker, who died in 1993.
On November 26, 1949 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Harold G. “Dutchie” Mertz, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1990.

Marian T. Mertz, 85, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Elk Towers, died Thursday evening, May 23, 2013, at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.
She was born on January 2, 1928 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Norbert Lecker, who died in 1985, and Caroline Hassennetter Lecker, who died in 1993.
On November 26, 1949 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Harold G. “Dutchie” Mertz, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1990.

Franziska Leeb, 97, of 126 Church Street, St. Marys, died unexpectedly Monday, May 20, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born February 3, 1916 in Linz, Austria. She had attended schools in Austria and had resided in St. Marys since 1959. She was a retired employee of Keystone Powdered Metal Co., retiring in 1981 after 21 years of service.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, was known for her cooking and willingness to share it with everyone. She loved learning new things, always ready to go on a trip. Her flowers in the gardens and on her porch were her joy.

Patricia A. Nesbitt, 76, of 42 Kennedy Street, Byrnedale, died unexpectedly Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born January 29, 1937 in Fox Twp., daughter of the late Anthony and Sara Dahlquist Nero.
On September 1, 1955 in Force, she married David R. Nesbitt Sr., who preceded her in death on March 18, 2010.

Norma M. Gallagher, 82, of Benezette, died Friday, May 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys.
She was a life-long resident of Benezette, having been born in Benezette on December 16, 1930, to the late Marie M. (O’Brien) and John F. Showers.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Benezette and later a member of St. Joseph Church in Force. She was a graduate of Benezette High School and on September 21, 1948, married Gerald L. Gallagher in Tyler. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1985.

Mary F. Erich, 73, of 200 Elm Road, St. Marys, died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois following an illness of the past few months.
She was born August 17, 1939 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Leo J. and Mary Engel Schade.
On August 11, 1962 in St. Mary's Church, she married the late Jerome J. Erich, who preceded her in death on January 12, 2013.

Mary S. Butera, 87, of 326 Allenhurst Ave., Ridgway, died, Friday, May 17, 2013, at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born in Platania, Italy, the daughter of Luigi and Pasqualina Butera, and sister of Frank M. Butera, who preceded her in death.
She was a resident of Ridgway and Erie, and a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Erie, and St. Leo’s Church in Ridgway.
