Robert E. Austin Jr., 74, of Rockport, Texas, died Friday, March 28, 2014 after a lengthy illness.
Robert was born in Reynoldsville on March 10, 1940 to the late Robert E. and Elizabeth I. (Brochey) Austin, both from Pennsylvania.
Robert worked in construction, was a member of the National Guard, enjoyed sports (especially basketball), and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Robert called several states home, including Pennsylvania, New York, Alabama, and Texas, where he spent his final years.
Alice R. Vanatta, 94, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, formerly of 522 1st Ave., Johnsonburg, died Wednesday afternoon, April 2, 2014 at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 12, 1919 in Wilcox, daughter of the late Albert N. and Mary Lecker Smith.
She married H. Dean Vanatta on Aug. 8, 1941. He died June 15, 1973.
She resided in Johnsonburg most of her life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1937.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg Senior Center and the former Rolfe Sportsmen's Club Women's Auxiliary.
Eugene A. "Oscar" Kriegel, 88, of 10 Samsel Ave. Johnsonburg, died Tuesday afternoon, April 1, 2014 at Penn Highlands-Elk, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
He was born May 13, 1925 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Anthony C. and Gertrude Keenen Kriegel.
He married Virginia M. "Chook" Williams on Dec. 17, 1945. She died Oct. 23, 1994.
He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1943.
Leo E. (Amacher) Cuthbert, 47, of 214 Fairview Ave., Johnsonburg, died March 13, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 10, 1966 in Ridgway, son of Thomas and Ruth Amacher.
He liked to walk in the woods to observe the wildlife.
He is survived by his mother, Nancy Cuthbert; and his siblings Lorraine Nolen, Dan Krzeminski, Julianne Folger, Laura Cuthbert, Karen Glenn, Willa Amacher, Thomas Amacher Jr., Fred Amacher, and Cris Amacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dawn E. Shipe; and by a nephew, Zacharias Amacher.
Norma June Joiner, 53, of Hoovertown Rd., Penfield, died suddenly at home on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
She was born June 11, 1960 in DuBois, daughter of the late Charles P. Snyder and Alice Rose (Card) Snyder, who survives.
A graduate of DuBois Area High School, she served in the U.S. Air Force as a medical aide.
She was a registered nursing assistant, working for Christ the King Manor for more than 30 years, including recently in the Alzheimer's Unit and also as a private hospice worker for many years.
Caroline Colaprete, 95, a resident of Elk Haven for the past three years, formerly of Ridgway Road, Johnsonburg, and 224 Wild Goose Ln., St. Marys, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 22, 1918 in Lewiston, N.Y., daughter of Pietra Lilla and Frederick Luparelli Albion. On Oct. 17, 1942, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., she married Philip Colaprete, who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1995.
Anna Marie Carlson, 73, of 9362 Route 219, Brockport, died Sunday March 30, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born Nov. 23, 1940 in Bombertown, daughter of the late Steven and Catherine Watkovich Scanish. She was married on Nov. 26, 1958 to John Edward Carlson Sr., he survives.
Anna enjoyed knitting, bingo, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Retired, she had been employed at Brockway Glass as an inspector.
David Ernest McClure, a resident of Okmulgee, Okla., died Friday morning, March 28, 2014 at 76 years of age.
David was born Dec. 20, 1937 in Bristol, Colo. to the late Harold and Ethel Faye (Palmer) McClure. He graduated from high school in Moline, Kan. and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
Nancy B. Gerbec, 78, of Cole Hill Road, Russell, died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Warren Manor following a brief stay.
Nancy was born Feb. 5, 1936 in Bradford,Â the daughter of the late Howard and Orta (Funk) Buchanan.
Nancy was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Warren High School. She was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator, and later at the Blair Corp., retiring after 25 years. Nancy was a member of the Scandia Covenant Church, attending as her health allowed. Among the things Nancy enjoyed, first and foremost were her family, especially her grandchildren.
Beth Sweeney Kuttler died March 20, 2014, surrounded by family on the first day of spring 2014 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 53 years old.
Beth was born to the late Eugene and Georgia Sweeney in St. Marys, on Feb. 1, 1961.
