Ella M. Jewart, 89, of 134 Uhl Road, Kersey, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at UPMC Hamot in Erie following a short illness.
She was born June 14, 1922 in Frenchton, W.V., a daughter of the late Manderville and Maude Simons Jeffries.
Mrs. Jewart was Methodist by faith.Â She worked at L & R Manufacturing for many years and also worked at St. Marys Carbon for more than 17 years.Â She was a dedicated and hard worker who enjoyed embroidery and crocheting, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Gloria A. Wicks, 79, of 153 West Theresia Road, St. Marys, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born June 10, 1932 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late John and Edna Frank Gerber. On October 22, 1949 in St. Marys, she married the late Flavius C. Wicks, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1985.
Mrs. Wicks was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She retired from Ames after many years of service.Â She enjoyed knitting and bird-watching, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Rosemary E. Girty, 80, formerly of 110 W. Condot Road and Elk Towers, died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the home of her daughter following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 13, 1930 in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Anthony J. and Charlotte E. Wolfe Eckl.
Theresa A. Gerber, 83, of 315 Mill Street, Daguscahonda, died Friday, June 15, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a brief illness.
She was born May 18, 1928, in Daguscahonda, daughter of the late Frank and Ellen Ribeck Supon. On September 4, 1948, in the St. Benedict's Church in Daguscahonda, she married Robert J. Gerber, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1986.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway High School. She was a former employee of Quality Components and the Sears store in St. Marys.
Lillian Maculata Finno, 87, of 1647 Silver Creek Rd., Johnsonburg, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Carmen and Immaculata DiNophrio Finno.
She resided in Johnsonburg her entire life and graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1941.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church. Her hobbies were cooking and baking and she enjoyed sharing with all her friends. She loved people and animals. She devoted much of her free time to volunteering in causes she thought would be beneficial to society.
Gilbert A. Sorg, 97, of 160 Wehler Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Elk Regional Health Center following a short illness.
He was born January 3, 1914 in St. Marys, a son of the late Michael and Mary Dendorfer Sorg.
On March 2, 1942 in Sacred Heart Church, he married the late Mary Bon Sorg, who preceded him in death on January 15, 1994.
Andrew Merle Johnston, 93, of State Park Road, Penfield, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the DuBois Nursing Home after a short illness.
He was born April 29, 1918 in Penfield, son of the late Frank and Annie (Colby) Johnston.
He married Betty F. (Lowstetter), who predeceased him in 1992.
He lived all of his life in Penfield. He was a graduate of Penfield High School and served in the Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945.
He was the founder of Andy Johnston Nursery and a member of the Home Camp United Methodist Church.Â He enjoyed racing, hunting, snowmobiling, and sitting on his porch.
Ruth Pistner, 94, of 817 Million Dollar Highway, St. Marys, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Force, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Agnes Shortt Cook. On Sept. 27, 1943, in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Joseph G. Pistner, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1990.
Ronald J. Salvetto, 56, formerly of 566 Rock St., Ridgway, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1955 in DuBois, son of Pauline A. Salvetto and the late James J. Salvetto.
He had resided in Ridgway for many years and was a former Erie resident. He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1973, and had attended Penn State. He had been employed by the Gertrude Barber Center in Erie for 10 years and Hamot Medical Center in Erie for 14 years.
Kenneth L. (Chunk) Danekas, 33, of 28 Lincoln St., Ridgway, died Thursday morning, July 7, 2011, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 10, 1977, in Sycamore, Ill., son of David D. and Jane M. (Fischer) Danekas. He married Kerri E. Brendel on June 19, 2004.
He had resided in Ridgway for 19 years and was a former Janesville, Wisc. resident. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the U.S. Bowling Congress.
