Elaine Parana is a Reiki practitioner. Parana has been practicing Reiki since 2002 but just recently opened her own shop in her home.
She says Reiki is an old Japanese hands-on healing and relaxation treatment.
â€śReiki promotes healing in the body, mind and spirit,â€ť Parana said. â€śIt is an alternative healing method that enhances regular medical care.â€ť
Some people may be skeptical of Reiki, but Parana assures it is essentially a channeling of energy from the universe.
DuBOIS â€“Â The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen boys' soccer team saw their season come to an end on Thursday evening as they were handed a 5-1 loss by the Punxsutawney Chucks in a D9 semifinal match played at the DuBois Area High School soccer field.
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader volleyball team closed out their regular season with a 3-0 victory over the Johnsonburg Ramettes Thursday night at the ECCHS gym.
The Lady Crusaders won the first set 25-20, took the second set 25-5 and won the third set 25-23 to win the match 3-0.
The Elk County Council on the Arts [ECCOTA], in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts [PCA], awarded 15 grants to organizations in Cameron, Clarion, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean and Potter counties.
On Wednesday evening, ECCOTA and the PCA awarded $19,779 in grant funds through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts [PPA] program to organizations to support arts activities in the region.
Brockway eliminates Lady Crusaders from 9-A soccer play

BROCKWAY - The Brockway Lady Rover soccer team eliminated the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders from the District 9-A tournament by a 2-1 score in a quarterfinal game played at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.
This was the third time that these two teams had met this season.
â€śThey beat us three times by one goal each time,â€ť said ECCHS coach Don Fabiano. â€śI congratulate them. To beat a team three times in one season is quite an accomplishment.â€ť
KERSEY â€“Â The Elk County Catholic High School boys' soccer squad came up short to the Brookville Raiders on Wednesday evening, losing a close quarterfinal match 1-0 at Angela Huey Memorial Field.
KERSEY â€“ North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission [NCPRPDC] officials called to mind highlights of fiscal year 2010 Wednesday during their executive committee meeting and annual dinner at The Red Fern in Kersey.
Beginning today all St. Marys Area School District students have the opportunity to enjoy a free breakfast once a month as part of an effort to promote the district's breakfast program as well as raise awareness about the importance of starting each day with a health meal.
SMASD Food Service Director Jennifer Asti said the monthly free breakfasts will continue throughout the remainder of the school year and will be held the last Thursday of each month, unless that date falls on a school holiday when it will be bumped up a week.
The Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce invites all to join them for the 55th Annual Membership Banquet on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Aiello's Cafe in Ridgway.
The fundraising committee of the Ridgway-Elk County Chamber of Commerce held a meeting Monday night to fine tune preparations for the big event.
The focus of this year's autumn-themed dinner is to recognize the 16 new members to the Chamber.
"This year we are focusing on recognizing our members and to give a little extra recognition to our new members who have joined since 2011," said administrative assistant Mary Kucenski.
RIDGWAY - The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders fought back from a 2-1 match deficit and a match point in the final set for a 3-2 (25-11, 23-25, 24-26, 25-14, 16-14) victory over Ridgway Tuesday night at Ridgway Area High School.
ECC won the first set but lost the next two to Ridgway, putting the Lady Elkers ahead entering the fourth set. The Lady Crusaders won the fourth set at 25-14 which set up the winner-take-all set.
