The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders had the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to put together the hits to get that runner home and ended up coming up short 5-3 to Curwensville in a game played at Benzinger Park.
RIDGWAY – The man charged with the Jan. 8 gunpoint robbery of a Johnsonburg bank was sentenced Monday in Elk County Court to serve five to 10 years in state prison. Corey Joseph Feronti, 37, of Johnsonburg, was initially charged with three counts of felony robbery and a misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking or disposition following the midday robbery at the CNB Bank branch on Market Street in Johnsonburg. As the result of a plea bargain presented to the court Monday, Feronti pled guilty to a single charge of felony, first degree robbery.
RIDGWAY – A Ridgway man charged with setting fire to his father's Johnsonburg rental property pleaded guilty in Elk County Court Monday to a felony charge of arson and related offenses. Anthony Karl Milliard, 29, of Ridgway, was sentenced to serve no less than 12 months and no more than 24 months in Elk County Prison where he has been housed since July of last year, charged in the Dec. 4, 2008 fire at 115 First Ave. in Johnsonburg.
St. Marys City Council unanimously approved several resolutions during its Monday evening meeting.
Among them were permitting Tina Gradizzi, Community and Economic Development Coordinator, to apply for a $200,000 grant on behalf of the St. Marys Recreation Board for phase one of a multi-park project.
Mary Rose Maletto, 96, 203 East Ave., Johnsonburg, died Sunday evening, May 5, 2013, at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
She was born March 26, 1916, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Pasquale Nocito and Mariannina Perrone Nocito Condina.
On June 17, 1939, in Holy Rosary Church, she married Alfred J. Maletto Jr. who preceded her in death on June 7, 2010.
Mary helped her mom raise her younger brother and sisters, and worked at the shirt factory in Kane (staying with family friends). She also worked at the JRC Radio Tube Factory in Johnsonburg, was a cook and homemaker for the Keenan family.
Mary Ann "Dolly" Mazzaferro, 86, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of East Eschbach Rd., St. Marys, died on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born October 6, 1926 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Hnath Catalano.
On May 30, 1949 in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Camillo Mazzaferro, who preceded her in death on March 10, 1999.

The Elk County Catholic Crusader baseball team captured the 2013 Elk County Baseball Tournament crown by defeating the Johnsonburg Rams by a 5-1 score Saturday afternoon at Berwind Park.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen doubled their win total for the season on Saturday morning by hanging on for a 5-4 victory over the Ridgway Elkers in the consolation game of the Elk County Baseball Tournament at Berwind Park.
Solid Waste Authority (SWA) enforcement officer Dave Stubber reported on two active investigations during the latest SWA meeting. The first is in regard to illegal dumping along Old State Road in Ridgway Township. The second entails illegal burning of municipal waste, specifically furniture by Benezette Township officials following their annual cleanup day.
The Elk County Veterinary Clinic (ECVC) is now offering a full-service large animal division along with emergency services after bringing Dr. Megan Cassels-Conway on board just over two weeks ago.
