With over 700 costumes, masks, accessories and jewelry, area residents from young to old can find an array of disguises at the new Costumes by Mary shop located at 120 Arbutus Ln., off of the Million Dollar Highway, in St. Marys.
Today marks the opening of the shop owned by Mary Jin. Costumes are available for sale and for rent until Nov. 1. The shop is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-noon and 4:30-8:30 p.m., Saturday noon-7 p.m and Sunday noon-6 p.m. Following the Halloween season, the shop is open year round by appointment only.
JOHNSONBURG â€“ Lindberg Furniture recently purchased a 1976 Beechcraft plane which now sits atop the roof of their Johnsonburg store. The aircraft was used as a training plane for pilots in Virginia between the years of 1978 and 1989.
"I've been wanting to do this for 33 years," said Bob Lindberg.
Kirk A. Bauer, 42, of 29 N. St. Marys St., died unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born March 28, 1971 in St. Marys, son of Mark A. Bauer of St. Marys and Ann Werner Ecklund of St. Marys. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1990. He was employed by GKN in Fairview.
He was a member of the American Legion, the St. Marys Eagles and the PFL.
Maximilian X. "Boobie" Stanisch, 87, of 623 Virginia Rd., St. Marys, died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 25, 1926 in St. Marys, a son of the late Maximilian Sr. and Anna Geci Stanisch.
On May 22, 1954 in St. Marys Church, he married Marcella "Sally" Bankovich Stanisch, who survives.
The Elk County Catholic High School girls and boys cross country runners were in action on Saturday at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, N.Y. for the 49th running of the McQuaid Invitational.
Lady Crusader Kennedy Weisner won the Girls Seeded Varsity A (small schools) race in a time of 16:54.6, finishing nearly a minute ahead of her closest competitor, East Aurora's Marta McLaughlin, who was second in 17:50.
The front circle of Benzinger Park on Fleming Road in St. Marys, which welcomes visitors, underwent a complete renovation due to the hard work of Andrew Gebauer and Matthew Feldbauer as part of their Eagle Scout project.
As part of their project each scout is required to invest 100 hours, with the pair logging in well over 200 hours together.
Phyllis J. Smith, 85, of Elk Towers and formerly of Main Street, Kersey, died on Friday, Sept.. 27, 2013 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 22, 1928 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Philip and Clara Kraus McKay.
On Nov. 7, 1953 in Harrisburg, she married the late Isaac L. Smith, who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1985.
Madeline M. "Madge" Antonuccio, 51, of 149 Water Works Rd., Ridgway, died on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at Elk Regional Health Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1962 in Ridgway, the daughter of Nicholas P. Antonuccio and the late Edna Dilley Antonuccio.
She spent the beginning of her love life with Jim Cristini, who fathered her two elder children and her later love life with Timothy Hasselman, who fathered her remaining four children.
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutch football team raised their record to 4-1 on the season as they defeated the Punxsutawney Chucks by a 12-6 score Friday night in Punxsutawney.
The Elk County Catholic Crusader football team saw their record fall to 0-5 on Friday night as they were defeated by the St. Joseph's Catholic Academy Wolves by a score of 44-12.
